Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Aleksandre Darakhvelidze attended the opening ceremony of the campaign – “I Choose Equality”.
The aim of the campaign is to raise public awareness of the risks posed by discrimination, hate speech and hate crimes.
Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs – Aleksandre Darakhvelidze, the Deputy Head of Office of the Council of Europe in Georgia - Stefan Sirbu, the Chairsperson of the Permanent Parliamentary Gender Equality Council – Nino Tsilosani, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands – Maaike van Koldam, the Ambassador of the Republic of Estonia – Riina Kaljurand, the representatives of the Public Defender’s Office of Georgia and other state agencies delivered the opening remarks.
Aleksandre Darakhvelidze underlined the role and responsibility of the Ministry in ensuring equality. The Deputy Minister also highlighted the importance of effective implementation of police activities in the unrestricted enjoyment of the rights established by the law.
The Deputy Minister outlined the activities carried out to successful fight against crimes committed on grounds of intolerance with discrimination basis and emphasized the continuous support of the Council of Europe in this process. In addition, the Deputy Minister announced the activities to be implemented with the campaign and introduced future plans to the audience.
The information campaign is carried out within the Council of Europe (CoE) project – “Promoting the Effective Protection of Equality and Non-Discrimination in Georgia”.
